Maybe it’s the ink they use; maybe it’s the jewel-like quality of it, so small but jam-packed with nuggets of information, photos, words, design… And the selectiveness of what’s in it–makes me wonder what they were trying to convey, how the visuals tie in with the music. Heady days… The endless road, conversations, long stretches of silence listening to the music, feeling for the first time like a displaced island in the middle of nowhere, so far removed from any semblance of a support network of friends nearby. I loved it. Something about the first taste of real independence made my heart race just a bit faster, even when I was sitting still. That was the semester I got straight A’s, too… My only one. New friendships were cropping up, my relationship with professors was strong, and I was actually pleased with the drawings I made for critiques and the like. If only it all hadn’t come crashing down the following semester… But everything happened for a purpose, there’s no doubt. Funny how I see that in increasing measure in everyday events; well, looking back on them at least I’m taken with a sense of reason, that even if I don’t and may never fully understand the underlying harmonies, it will all weave together in the end.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
I love the smell of a new cd booklet–or a new book, for that matter, but there’s something unique about a cd liner.
