I didn’t wear my green pullover, which would have made me warmer, because I have my sleeves for my shirt rolled up, and when I try to put something over it, it kind of starts to back up my arm, which is uncomfortable, and besides it just looks like I have lumpy arms underneath the pullover, and…yeah. Simple minds, simple frustrations, especially first thing in the morning.

Yesterday I worked all the way through from 8 til 5, cooked dinner in about half an hour, went home, mowed the rest of the lawn, pulled most everything out of the engine bay of the Supra except the engine itself, returned to the apartment, and went for a run. So today I’m tired, even more since I’m operating on about 6 hours of sleep. Not good.

[geek]

I’m having a hard time justifying the extra expense of forged pistons for the rebuild. My intuition says that stock internals are sufficient for the horsepower goals I’m shooting for, but for long-term reliability plus the ability to withstand the occasional bout of detonation, forged is the way to go. It’s just… a set of .020 over stock pistons is $274, plus another $156 for rings, which adds up to $430, and a set of JEs, without rings, is around $750. But I could get the Ross pistons, complete with rings (although evidently they need to be ground), for around $650-700. So maybe that’s the way to go. My initial thought was just to stick with factory bits, buy a wideband O2 monitor, and watch the A/F ratio like a hawk at WOT, but I think for peace of mind, forged internals plus a good bit of dyno time to work out all the kinks will keep me in the green throughout the operating range. Yep.

One thing I do want to fabricate, though, is a delayed lead off the knock sensor wires to indicate to me, in the passenger compartment, exactly when detonation is occurring. Granted, it only occurs for a fraction of a second before the KS detects it and the ECU retards the timing, too short a time for me to really do anything about it, but if I prolong the signal just a bit and place an indicator light in my line of sight I think it would be a valuable bit of information, at least to know what engine conditions are causing the detonation.

[/geek]

It’s cold this morning.
