I was wondering that this morning. We use them all the time, but where did they come from? Maybe it all has to do with the tone of voice we tend to use when saying them, which is definitely part of the expressions, at least as I use them.

French techno on the radio. Kinda weird, but I like weird, and besides, the station breaks are nice :o) I just wish the network wouldn’t stall and rebuffer the stream every minute or so. Ooh, French rap now. Hahaha. It sounds a bit silly. I guess it’s hard to sound thuggish when you’re speaking in French.

I drove half an hour to Cary last night around 7 for our weekly youth leaders meeting. This week it was supposed to be a “fun night,” so I brought Apples to Apples. I pulled up in the parking lot of Jeremy’s (the youth leader) apartment complex, and didn’t see the cars of the other leaders, but I did see his. I walked upstairs, knocked on the door, and was greeted with a big hello and laugh and the news that the fun night is this Friday. I laughed and made conversation, but I felt really, really stupid… I stuck around for a minute, then drove back. I’ve been feeling an inordinate amount of spiritual attack over the whole youth group situation. Last night was an example–I felt an incredibly strong impulse to have a pity party on the way home and just an overwhelming sense of self-condemnation. I mean, I just didn’t read the email carefully enough… Jeremy was probably amused for a minute, then went back to his dinner. The youth group meetings on Saturday nights and the regular youth leader meetings on Tuesdays are other examples. Sometimes in the midst of them I get an incredible sense that I don’t have any sort of rapport with any of the kids or the other leaders, like I don’t mesh with them at all, and how could I possibly make a difference, and so on and so forth… But I know it’s where I’m supposed to be. I’d appreciate your prayers for that.

Who decided that “uh huh” would stand for “yes” and “unh uh” would stand for “no”?
