I just finished watching the director’s cut for the first time, which, especially in letterbox format, is much more satisfying than the alternate version. No cheesy voiceovers, for starters, and the violence is much less gratuitous, allowing one to focus on the cerebral aspects of the film. Such atmospheres they created… steam, smoke, piercing lights, neon, the glow of the sunset and sunrise, everything flickering, floating; everything is the surface but isn’t. I can recall many dreams from my childhood more readily than actual memories–nightmares that sent me scurrying into my parents’ room or simply yelling for them in my bed, or epic visions that I would later record in drawing in elementary school, much to the bewilderment of my teachers–I can remember them all. And every once in the while, Sunday nights being a prime example, they overflow and I find myself longing with the combined strains of both spheres of my mind for the unnamed universe. *sigh* These dreams… Perhaps this is why intuition fascinates me so.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
I know I’ve said so before in this journal, but I’d just like to reiterate how amazing the production design is in Blade Runner.
