I’ll let her elaborate on the progress of the illness if she feels so inclined :) Obviously Luke and I had a lot of together time late last week and over the weekend as Mommy was sick. Fortunately the weather was beautiful, and we enjoyed our little island of clement weather in the middle of winter by venturing outside. We went for walks on both Friday and Saturday and met many people in the neighborhood, all couples almost our grandparents’ age. The last couple we met were owners of a house with a tree in its yard which has been an object of enduring fascination for Luke. It’s a small shrubbery (no Holy Grail jokes, please) about a foot in diameter, trimmed to a roughly spherical shape, and it has acquired the name “Itty Bitty One Tree” (to distinguish it from all the other One Trees out there. Really). It’s about six feet from the curb and being in a neighbor’s yard we haven’t been able to approach it. Every time we walk by we sit on the curb and gaze at it longingly, sometimes picking up some gravel from the curb area, sometimes not. But Saturday afternoon the couple that owns the house was present, and packing up their car, no less. So I had a chance to strike up a conversation and ask if Luke and I could *gasp* touch<\/i> the Itty Bitty One Tree (I didn’t phrase it like this, of course). He consented and Luke ran up onto the grass and starting orbiting the tree excitedly, pointing out all its features. I think that made his evening, and it was fun to watch.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Diane’s feeling better, thank goodness, and neither Luke and I seem to have caught what she had last week, a particularly nasty stomach bug.
