Accompanied Diane and Luke to an ultrasound for our baby today, and… it’s a GIRL! Diane cried; she was overjoyed, and I am very happy too. I’m so excited about all the things we will get to do together, about learning and growing and protecting and interacting and just meeting this new eternal soul with hopes and dreams and fears and loves just like the rest of us. It made it very real. I was in a daze all day and was grateful for the slow day at work, which gave me more time to reflect. We had already (sort of) chosen a name a month or two ago on the way back from a trip to Charlotte. We didn’t even seriously consider boys’ names and jokingly felt today that it was a little prophetic that we didn’t. Barring any last minute changes of heart, her name will be Penelope Wynn (“Penny” for short). Diane has an affinity for Greek names and I love the mythological Penelope’s character, her love for her husband and the faithfulness she has become a paragon of. As for “Wynn,” it is Welsh in origin and connotes “fair, pure, joy.” We’re excited. Our little family grows.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
