Diane’s still at the ladies’ Bible study, the kids have been in bed for several hours (in Pen’s case, since 5:45 or so) and I can’t seem to find motivation to work on the website. I dabbled on it for about half an hour, trying to assemble the “about” page, but petered out. There’s so much lacking in my knowledge of the nuts and bolts of web design that I have to constantly remind myself that the service the website is offering is primarily graphic design for print applications, and not web-based design, though I’m sure I will get inquiries about the latter. So much to learn, so little time.

Our family Christmas photo session is coming up. My sister-in-law Maralyn is going to take the pictures, and we’re going to gather at Diane’s parents’ house, since no suitable backdrop exists at our place. I’m going to borrow the digital camera from work:

I’ve been spoiled lately using it on the job. Rarely have I come across a “tool” of any type so easy to use and so perfectly suited for the required tasks. And since my little digicam went kaput a few weeks ago, and we’re weaning ourselves off the cell phones and their associated cameras, and since we DO have young kids, we’re definitely in the market for something new. I think the camera might be just the thing to save up for as a family.

I listen to a smattering of podcasts at work, among them an excellent one called “Coverville,” composed entirely of songs covered by artists other than the original performers. The shows are usually grouped around themes like something common in the song titles, a common artist, or just collections of cover requests. Every Thanksgiving the host, Brian Ibbott, puts together an extra-long Beatles cover show. There are so many Beatles covers out there he has enough material for a quality show every year, and this year didn’t disappoint. One standout was a cover of “She Loves You” by Peter Sellers, who I didn’t even know had done recordings, only having known and appreciated him as an actor. The song was short and performed in the narrative style of a kind of Nazi doctor giving a diagnosis to an excitable patient. It had me in stitches and encouraged me to look up more of his recorded work. As it turns out, he’s done a number of spoken-word-ish albums. If nothing else, it made me really want to give the Pink Panther films another viewing. I watched those at far too early an age to appreciate the humor. Time to have another go at it.

Slow Monday night.
