The room is quiet except for the low rumble of the heater and the click of the keys on what David Watkins called “the noisiest keyboard ever.” I’ll believe it.<\/p>\n
Reread some random journal entries from a few years ago. I’m glad I kept that. Just reading it, even if it does provoke a twinge of conviction that I might be mining the past (even though I rarely revisit those entries), at least momentarily widens my scope of the present. It’s like going from a 4mm to a 20mm lens in the telescope–the field of view opens up and I take in the context of the part of the sky under observation.<\/p>\n
I need to save all my old journal entries to my hard drive, or burn them to a cd, or print them out, even. I’ve flirted with the idea of compiling them and submitting them for publication, but I’m pessimistic that readers would be able to relate to something so disjointed. I never made much of an effort to record my day-to-day activity, and in most cases the subject of a given post had absolutely nothing to do with my daily routine. But perhaps that’s a selling point? If I pitched it as a sort of “free verse journal,” maybe folks who like to speculate over unanswered questions in what they’re reading would find it appealing. Whatever the case, I haven’t even read the whole thing from start to finish, so who knows? Perhaps the continuity actually exists and my revisiting has been too random to pick up on it.<\/p>\n
