{"id":1296,"date":"2009-03-16T20:54:00","date_gmt":"2009-03-17T01:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.boldulysses.com\/?p=1296"},"modified":"2009-03-16T20:54:00","modified_gmt":"2009-03-17T01:54:00","slug":"evening-links","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.boldulysses.com\/?p=1296","title":{"rendered":"evening links"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>1. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.virginmedia.com\/travel\/destinations\/features\/scariest-airport-landing-strips.php\">A fun collection of airports<\/a> I would love to land a plane at.&nbsp; Heck, I soloed on a half-mile-long, 20-foot-wide <a href=\"http:\/\/www.airnav.com\/airport\/31A\">runway<\/a> affectionately known as &quot;the toothpick.&quot;&nbsp; I honestly think <a href=\"http:\/\/www.virginmedia.com\/travel\/destinations\/features\/scariest-airport-landing-strips.php?ssid=6\">Courchevel<\/a> would be a blast.&nbsp; It&#8217;s the old adage: If you fly by the numbers, you know exactly what your plane can handle.<\/p>\n<p>2. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/article\/dn16769-concept-of-hypercosmic-god-wins-templeton-prize.html?DCMP=OTC-rss&amp;nsref=online-news\">The recent Templeton Prize winner<\/a>. &nbsp;For those of you familiar with my <a href=\"http:\/\/spaceship.livejournal.com\/341971.html\">anti-quantum mechanics pro-higher dimensions viewpoint<\/a>, it will come as little surprise that I&#8217;m excited by the winner&#8217;s emphasis on the direction I&nbsp;think physics should take.&nbsp; Key quote:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Unlike classical physics, d&#8217;Espagnat explained, quantum mechanics cannot describe the world as it really is, it can merely make predictions for the outcomes of our observations. If we want to believe, as Einstein did, that there is a reality independent of our observations, then this reality can either be knowable, unknowable or veiled. D&#8217;Espagnat subscribes to the third view. Through science, he says, we can glimpse some basic structures of the reality beneath the veil, but much of it remains an infinite, eternal mystery.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That describes higher dimensions to a tee.&nbsp; We can describe them mathematically, but can&#8217;t fundamentally understand them unless we experience them.&nbsp; I don&#8217;t agree with the article&#8217;s meandering into Kant and Spinoza, since to agree with Kant in particular about the chasm between faith and reason is unbiblical, and Spinoza was a <em>de facto<\/em> pantheist, but there is certainly nothing wrong with ascribing to the viewpoint that reality is best explained using higher dimensions that are out of our realm of experience, and that God and the spirit world understand and occupy those higher dimensions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1.
