He got a few sets for Christmas so it’s not exactly an infrequent occurrence to hear him playing with them these days; however, in this case he had broken out his original Lego set, a collection of basic blocks instead of the more sophisticated pieces that came in his Christmas sets. The set in question also came with an instruction book giving step-by-step directions on how to assemble some rudimentary vehicles and other things like a tree or a bridge. What made yesterday morning so special was that I happened upon him about halfway through the instructions<\/i> for building the crane. Like, he had actually found the necessary pieces and gone through about 5 steps, matching his progress with the illustrations in the book. He had seen me do it with all his Christmas sets and I included him as much as possible, explaining the process and letting him do other fun stuff like putting on the stickers, but I had no idea how much he had retained until yesterday. He got all embarrassed and had a mini-meltdown when I tried to praise him for it (Luke’s M.O. these days…) but I was still a very proud Daddy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Yesterday morning I woke up a little late.
