Penelope is very close to walking.  She&#8217;s taken a few steps here and there, but doesn&#8217;t really grasp the significance of what she&#8217;s doing.  We think she doesn&#8217;t really feel the necessity of it, since she&#8217;s a remarkably fast crawler.  Over at Diane&#8217;s parents&#8217; house on Sunday evening, she was exuberantly (and sometimes over-exuberantly) standing with the aid of plastic bins to pull herself up on.  It will be great fun to see her totter along when she finally gets it.  She&#8217;s a girl through-and-through, dramatic whether she&#8217;s joyful or distressed or demanding.  And truly the apple of her daddy&#8217;s eye.<\/p>\n<p>4. One of Luke&#8217;s favorite things at the moment is to go places with Daddy in the evening when I get home from work.  I have the feeling he&#8217;d be content if I just strapped him in his booster seat in the car after dinner and drove around for 15 minutes.  He just likes to be out and about with me, and I with him.  We&#8217;ll go to stores, but almost never buy anything.  Some days we&#8217;ll go to Harris Teeter and eat bites of every free sample we can find (including the cookies) and see if we can smell all the spices in the spice section of the store.  When we visit Lowes or Home Depot we have our &#8220;stations&#8221; we always stop at, including the tractors, the doors, the windows, the rugs, the mailboxes, the doorbells and the brushes.  Over the summer we took walks around the neighborhood almost every evening.  The quickly-setting winter sun has put a damper on that activity, though, so we&#8217;re doing what we can to get out.
