The snafus were confined to the details and the major events and themes were resounding successes and even exceeded our expectations, by His grace. At the reception in particular we were concerned about uncomfortable strangers having to sit next to one another, but in several instances people and families who had remarkably similar backgrounds and interests conversed around the same table. On the honeymoon, too, even though we weren’t able to stay at the cabin the whole time (for divers reasons), we found a wonderful hotel in Hendersonville. And during our visit to Biltmore the weather was exceedingly rainy, something that just gave the otherwise standoffish ostentation of the building a cozier feel. Other than those redeemable hiccups, everything went so well. The ceremony was beautiful and meaningful, the reception perfectly attended and the honeymoon had just the right balance of activity and downtime. We read C.S. Lewis together, worked on puzzles, and baked cookies. She gave me a crash course in Led Zeppelin and we discovered another George Winston album at a big used book and music store. So much time close to her was a cool breeze after the stifling level of activity preparing for the wedding. Not that that’s entirely over–we still have thank-yous to write–but the transition into this new place we’re both discovering was ideal.

Still in the process of setting up the new journal…

She made me lunch today.
