New York was fun, albeit a bit stressful. We ate in Little Italy, visited the top of the World Trade center after dark, and generally got lost in downtown New York, among other things. It was enlightening to observe a family other than my own on a vacation\/road trip. I think the family dynamic becomes more prominent out on the road, when your existence is a bit less comfortable than at home and everyone is trying to adjust. All in all, I had a good time with everyone, joking around with her father, throwing the frisbee with her siblings, and complimenting her mother on the grilled chicken dinner. Yum :o)<\/p>\n
It’s good to be home, though. I have to become independent within the next six months, so I’m putting my design portfolio together in the evenings, and working on the soon-to-be-sold Taurus during the day. There’s always something else to be done, not that things break, but odds and ends that I would overlook, but a car buyer would have trouble ignoring. It got inspected today, though, a rare event for me. I came home and announced to my mom, “My mechanical prowess has been officially vindicated by the US government.” Hopefully my dad will take me a bit more seriously now (after two successful engine swaps and a host of other things, I would certainly hope so). And he does, it’s just that the two of us have different approaches to the task; he prefers to have someone tell him\/show him what’s wrong and how to fix it, and I would rather do the research and diagnosis on my own, a less immediate technique, but one that avoids problems down the road when something comes up and you know from experience what’s going on.<\/p>\n
