I <i>suppose<\/i> it <i>could<\/i> be interpreted in terms of life goals and ambitions; in other words, Simon could be saying that his love for her undermines his belief in selfish ambitions he held before her.  But that is more difficult to support than the more obvious interpretation (a loss of faith).  Given the underlying theme of many of Simon&#8217;s songwriting during that period (and the culture, really), I can&#8217;t say I&#8217;m entirely surprised by the existentialism.<\/p>\n<p>The steady rain outside today isn&#8217;t helping, although there have been redeeming moments.  I walked out into the warehouse earlier to go to the front office and the sound of the raindrops on the sheet steel roof echoed up and down the open space, amplified.
