It hasn’t sunk in just yet. The fact that I’m a pilot, that is. I think the first time I take someone up it will really hit home. It’s an incomparable feeling–it can be fun again now that the (necessary for a time) pressure is off. Thinking about the experience, it’s almost routine–running through the preflight, the pre-takeoff checklists and the radio calls, among other things. And I want it to become even more routine and familiar.

2. Had a bit of a celebration for Luke’s 2nd birthday on Monday. The president of the company where I work got wind of the fact that I had passed my checkride and generously offered to reimburse me for a nice dinner with Diane. But having spent Saturday with her and letting her parents babysit Luke all day, I thought it better if the three of us all did something together. Monday evening we went to a local chain restaurant and feted his birthday. Diane and I collaborated to buy him a combination sandbox/water play area, which he loves. He is a fantastic little boy and the bond between us is growing a little more each time.

3. He suggested we might fly up there and “split the time” (translation: Now that I’m a private pilot I can log “pilot in command” time). That’s a nice feeling of camaraderie.

4. Karl just passed out Easter candy to everyone–Nestle chocolate eggs. Yesterday afternoon he “released for consumption” (he has a stash) one of his Lindt chocolate bars. Yum.

1.
