I hate this “holiday.” Other than the candy. It’s good for that. My disdain for it doesn’t even come from the fact that I’m resolutely single at the moment–even when I’m in a relationship with someone, I won’t indulge in the cutesy gift-giving and all the superficial nonsense that goes on around me today. It isn’t to say I won’t give gifts and such, but they won’t be cheap flimflam; they’ll be meaningful<\/i> and significant. Maybe that makes me less “romantic” according to the popular notion (which I despise anyway), but so be it.<\/p>\n
I would write more, but as I’ve mentioned to several folks, I hate the way I write in here lately. I have ideas to express but I can’t find the right words anymore, and when I try to force it things just end up sounding pretentious and mangled and faux-poetic (which they probably do anyway). I’ve half-written several posts and just kept them private because the expression stalls. And it creates a tension because the idea or notion is still inside of me, needing somewhere to express itself, but it inevitably, at least lately, gets lost in the translation from thought to written word. I think I need a break.<\/p>\n
I really have no reason to be this grumpy, and I’m not uniformly ill-tempered; this post is just receiving the brunt of what discontent I do<\/i> have. Flight is going very well; if the weather holds I’ll have my Private Pilot License by mid-March. They want to keep me on at work indefinitely, beyond the extent of the project I was hired to complete. The roommate situation is stable (except for Don’s personal habits… How do you stay married as long as he has without learning to put the seat down or take out the trash?). And aside from whatever interpersonal drama exists within my Bible study group, which I categorically refuse to get involved in, I’m making friends and having fun. So circumstances are good.<\/p>\n
