That car’s engine was designed by the antichrist. You won’t convince me otherwise. After 7 hours, countless scraped knuckles, a slight sunburn, and being covered with grease pretty much from head to foot, the bad engine is out of the car. Not that it didn’t make every conceivable effort to remain in the vehicle, however. I mean, gosh, where do I start? Long story short, it was an epic battle, and I do mean battle, but the task is complete. Well, half complete. The other engine awaits installation, in the back of the truck. Putting it back in is always easier, though (well, it was last year… but taking it out was infinitely easier too), no sticky bolts or unfamiliarity with the engine bay. *sigh* I have a slight feeling I should buy stock in the Bandaid company before I go out tomorrow… Weird, huh?

Watched a good documentary on General Douglas MacArthur before I had to wash dishes this evening. Was interesting to hear about his occupation of Japan after the war and the programs he implemented, the social and political reforms he carried out. It’s not something I remember reading in my history books in high school. Come to think of it, I miss history. Well, somewhat. I like it when I can identify with a particular personality in a specific period, their actions and the shape of their life and words. Something about being able to view their life in retrospect gives them a larger-than-life image… I idealized a lot of historical figures during my high school years; I probably still would if were studying the subject. Perhaps that’s a cause or a symptom of my own idealism when relating to others, I don’t know.

The days are speeding up… I hadn’t realized it last week since I was so busy, but now I see they are indeed. I hope Tim is doing okay. I wish I was able to talk some sense into him during our time together as roommates this year, but what he needs I can’t give him. That’s another reason I didn’t want him to return to Greenville: It’s a familiar environment for him, which will only make it easier for him to remain stagnant in his old habits. I want to go visit him at least once this summer… The chemistry we had this year was no fluke; he is a good friend, and I enjoy his company.
