Today is…

A bit dreary. Challenging. Hectic. At least I have money in my checking account again, so that point of stressitude is lessened. The jobs here at work keep piling up, though… To the point where I really should be working on them instead of updating this thing, but bah humbug to that.

Was listening to the local jazz station over lunch today, and on my way to pay the electric bill, a low-tempo, breathy version of an old jazz standard came on (the name escapes me now). It evoked images and visions of a cosmopolitan romance…Nights out, streetlights substituting for the stars, the old-world tone of the surroundings giving the romance a note as singleminded as any foray into an open field, and yet casual at the same time, easy, light, and unpretentious. A decided attraction sprung as much from a meeting of minds and a convergence of manners as any physical chemistry that might be present. Amazing how much emotion can sweep over you when you’re stopped a red light, hands on the steering wheel, eyes focused just enough to perform their task, lost in the music for 30 seconds or so…

I want to…

Be somewhere. There. Among enclaves, outcroppings, remnants of a world foreign but at the same tangent to my life at more points than I know, enough that I’m surprised by my responses to moments sometimes. It always reawakens the knowledge that there’s more, much more, and not in this world either…
