Duke is losing as I write this

Published on February 1, 2001

Well, Paige told me she isn’t going skiing. Which means she’ll probably prevail on Aaron not to come. But I’m still going, gosh darn it. This is the third time I’ve tried to do this and it’s just going to get warmer from here. As long as I have one more person to go with, I’m still going. That’s my resolution.

IVCF large group tonight was good. The speaker’s topic was the fear of God, differentiating it from the day-to-day fear we experience in our lives. It was really on target, since fear has been an issue weighing on my heart for a long time. I was thinking about the trip to Philadelphia (which I’m going to turn in my application for tomorrow), and testmonials and accounts of it that I’d heard, and I remember thinking, “That doesn’t sound so bad. I can handle that.” God gently interrupted me, though, saying, “No, you won’t be able to handle it. You need Me, My strength, and My guidance. That’s the only way you’re going to be able to make it.” I have a peace now about things. He will work them out; all I need do is my best. A job, serving Him, school, Erin and I, it’s all in His hands. He is amazing and powerful and knows all that is to come. He has plans for my life; He’s given me these gifts and won’t let them fall by the wayside if I remain faithful and trust in Him, something I’m learning to do more and more.

In other news, the ice cream song is still going through my head.

Your love
is better than ice cream.
Better than anything else that I’ve tried
and your love
is better than ice cream
everyone here knows how to fight

and it’s a long way down
it’s a long way down
it’s a long way
down to the place where we started from.
