domicile
We got it.
The house, that is. We closed on our new house last Friday. The aftermath was completely surreal as we stumbled out of the attorney’s office and out to the car. Even driving over there and visiting immediately afterwards, it didn’t feel like “our home,” though I don’t think it will until we actually move in and experience life there.
Speaking of moving in, we might actually do so sooner rather than later. The logistical difficulties of driving back and forth to work on it, the “separate-ness” and particular the fact that the kids don’t understand why we can’t be there now… All those factors are good reasons to just move. The idea is that the inconvenience of working around family life is less than the inconvenience of essentially living two places and constantly driving back and forth. So, we might actually move over there this Friday.
It was a busy weekend. Diane spent a lot of time over there testing paint and various stains for the kitchen cabinets. I watched the kids and borrowed the work van to empty out the storage unit, an achievement which felt fantastic. It’s awesome not to have to worry about that any more, and $46 more a month besides. The contents of the storage unit are in the garage at the moment, which I think will become a staging area of sorts for the move into the rest of the house. Well, staging and triage—we’re definitely taking the opportunity that moving affords to weed out the junk we’ve accumulated.
Moving right along…
