Beach 2010 report: Great, great trip. The kids were the real “winners.” We all were, but they in particular had the time of their lives. They both utterly, completely and totally love the beach. Luke has so much to do on the beach: splashing in the water, drawing in the sand, making sand castles, digging holes, looking at seashells, chasing gulls, etc. And Penelope loves it too—it’s well-nigh impossible to keep her out of the water. She even went wave jumping with me a couple of times and was reluctant to return to the sand.
We stayed in a house a few rows back from the beach this year. My parents rented the house and Gran and Jonathan and Leslie joined us, with Uncle Mike, Aunt Lucy and Danusa coming for the latter half of the week there. We had a private pool, which was nice especially for Pen (she loved that too). All the couples cooked at least one night; Diane and I made a Mediterranean meal that went over very well. Luke and I flew kites on the hawk’s nest on the roof and I tried to stargaze from there but couldn’t make out too much. There was supposed to be a meteor shower early in the week, and while I saw a few, no one else caught very many of them. It was kind of underwhelming that way.
All in all, it was a great trip. I’m so happy both kids like the beach as much as they do. They could just camp out there for hours and hours and be totally content, provided they were fed, sunscreened and occupied.
