Diane and I watched The Last Unicorn last night. I hadn’t seen the movie in a good twenty years and was eager to see it again, remembering how affected I was by it when I was younger. My impression of it after the re-viewing is decidedly mixed. The script is quite poetic in bits and has surprisingly affecting moments, but there are several scenes (the harpy sequence and the tree) that are definitely not appropriate for kids, even older ones. And Jeff Bridges’ voice work as Prince Lir is really underwhelming. But overall it was a good sojourn into cinematic nostalgia.
Our first Truth Project home meeting after our wedding and honeymoon is tonight. The topic is God’s perspective on labor, work and creativity. We want to be conformed to His standard in all things, to be more free and more who we were created to be, and for Him to be glorified not just in the process (which implies a side effect) but first of all. Whether or not our personal sensibilities are fulfilled or our lives enriched, as it were, let Him be praised and glorified.
