I feel sometimes like lunchtimes are my least creative time of the day. I have little creative energy and yet I am compelled to write, the result being nothing more than a dry record of the latest goings-on around the Suffern household. But remembering thoughts and insights worth sharing is a struggle anyway (I really DO need to find a small recording device I can take with me on a run, which is where good thoughts often come), so not much is different here.
Last Saturday Diane, Luke and I, along with Diane’s sister Maralyn and her fiancĂ© Josh visited Discovery Place, a science museum in Charlotte. Luke was wonderfully well-behaved and patient during the moderately long drive, and he enjoyed the museum a lot. There was an excellent kids playspace with water toys and an inside jungle gym, among many other things. It’s nice to just be able to let him run free for a little bit. He liked the giant globe a lot, given his recent geographical fixations. He didn’t take to the IMAX theater so well, though, given that he’s never even been to a “normal” movie theater before and the hemispherical screen and thunderous sound system can be overwhelming for even the seasoned moviegoer. Incidentally, I didn’t take to it that well either, seeing as how the movie was about undersea life and spent the first 20 minutes on invertebrates, which make me queasy. Luke got scared in the first 30 seconds of the movie, I took him upstairs to a small room adjoining the exit and we watched a little more of the movie through the double doors, which effectively reduced the screen size to that of a large television and tempered the sound somewhat. We still left entirely after the tube-dwelling anemones, though. It gives me the willies just to think about them… Goodness.
