The interview went okay. Having recently learned that my true strengths and interests lie in (imagine this) the thing I went to college for 4 years to study–design–the revelation has been liberating and confining all at once. It’s liberating because I don’t have to present myself as a jack-of-all-trades in job interviews, since while I do have experience with engineering and prototyping, I am far from an engineer or a fabricator. I am free to be unapologetic about my penchant for the conceptual side of industrial design. But it is confining in that it reduces the range of job options, at least nominally.
But the interview was passable. My interviewer was quite affable but the place as a whole seems like a worse fit than here, at ImageWorks. This really is a great situation (how God has abundantly provided): 10 minute commute, family people, great work ethic, talented folks, varied and interesting work that I enjoy very much. We’ll see what comes of this.
Sometimes I feel like I should have accepted the interview offer at Indian Motorcycle. They recently opened a plant in King’s Mountain, NC, about half an hour west of Charlotte, and while the initial phone call was quite enthusiastic, I ruled them out as too far of a commute. But it would have been in a beautiful part of the state, that’s for sure. And moving… Well, moving’s moving.
Diane and I have been avidly following the French presidential election process, and were excited that “Sarko” won. His prioritizing of the integration of Muslims into French society is a very clear-headed approach, one that other European countries will hopefully follow. And while some of his other policies aren’t so commendable, he seems like the right man for the job. We have faith that he is, given God’s sovereignty over the affairs of men and the leaders of men. We’ll be praying for him.
