Any day now. Diane’s discomfort increases a little every day (and night) and we have just about reached the point where the lingering hesitation about the ordeal of labor has been overcome by the desire for the baby to emerge. Being ready helps. We’ve cleaned the basement, restored the kitchen to functionality, prepared her room, purchased or been given (thank you!) all the accessories we need and preemptively acknowledged the Lord’s sovereignty over the entire upcoming ordeal, which taps into the core of emotional and spiritual preparation we need. There really is little left but to go through it and meet this new soul.

We watched The Iron Giant last night. What a great movie… One I would buy, definitely. The characterizations are sharp, the personalities three-dimensional and the animation is very good. Diane and I got into a discussion over dinner last night about the merits of carrying one’s enthusiasm for animated films (including computer animation) into adulthood. We didn’t reach any conclusions, but suffice it to say my enthusiasm for that last feature is certainly not dampened by my status as an adult.
