evening notes

1. I really need to work on our website. Among others. But our website has been languishing for a while. If nothing else I could find a way to embed this journal in the site. They say content is king when it comes to putting together a compelling website, and they’re not specific about the quality of the content, so I may be on to something…

2. We’re visiting Twin City Baptist tomorrow morning. I went there for one Sunday when I first moved into town back in 2005. I ended up at Calvary, where I met Diane and Luke. That was providential (what isn’t?).

3. Hopefully things with Luke will settle down somewhat now that the major routine-disrupting events of the Holidays have passed. He’s been “hitting the wall,” figuratively-speaking, a lot lately with undesirable behavior. In raising me and my two brothers, my dad said there was a point, usually between the ages of 4 and 5, when the whole concept of discipline started to “click” and I began to avoid certain behaviors and attitudes because I knew I would get disciplined for them. Luke doesn’t seem like he’s quite there yet. He’s very sweet most of the time, but when it comes to antisocial and/or disrespectful behavior seems to view his own misdeeds as a series of more-or-less discrete events, and doesn’t seem to grasp the underlying bad attitude that drives most of them, no matter how much we try to point it out to him. We’re praying for the day to come quickly when his little mind does start to make those connections, and are praying for wisdom and loving consistency in knowing how to raise him.

4. Penelope is so close to walking it’s ridiculous. She can stand up in the middle of a room unassisted quite easily, and when she’s excited sometimes she’ll take a few staggering steps forward, but (fast!) crawling is still her main means of locomotion. Any day now…
