As an addendum to the previous post, check out Over the Rhine’s website. It’s been one of my all-time favorites for a while, and has maintained that status even as I’ve become more of a web designer and more familiar with the nuts and bolts behind the glossy facade (some sites lose their luster when I discover their shaky and inelegant structure). In any case, OtR’s site is absolutely beautiful, perfectly representative of them as a band, chock-full of frequently-updated content, easy to navigate, strikes an admirable balance between being totally static and having too much Flash and is semantically coded. It’s…almost perfect.
In other news, for a laugh, point your browsers to the official website of The Traffic Cone Preservation Society. This site’s been around for ages but I hadn’t visited it in quite some time. It hasn’t changed much. You’ll find a field guide to the many subspecies of traffic cones, a section devoted to appearances of the traffic cone throughout history, speculation about its evolution and even your chance to become a card-carrying member of the TCPS. Back in the day, they would actually send you a miniature cone in the mail when you became a member, but it looks like they’ve shut down that part of the site. Oh well. Still worth a look.
