My roommate is asleep yet again, and it’s quiet in here. A faint rhythmic thumping of bass from another room’s stereo makes it way through the walls, but that’s all.

I wish I could paint you all a picture of the day unfolding itself outside my window. The casual quality of the sunlight making its way through the leaves reminds me of so many things. It’s a song of sunlight, the airy notes breathing through my memory, recalling times in France, the same sunlight thousands of miles away, but so near to me now. The white plaster walls of the hotel; a small open window above my bed. I slipped the headphones on and laid down, pressed play, closed my eyes, and lost myself in the music, scenes and people drifting through my head becoming one with the lavender fragrance carried by the breeze.

I wish for so many things, but most of all, someone to share these moments with.
