Sweater Vests with Sequins

It's been awhile since I've posted anything of much worth. Actually, no promises on this one either. Most of the time when I get an itching to write something and simultaneously the time to, it is a rare and momentous occasion. More often than not it is out of guilt for neglecting the infinitesimally small space I occupy on the web. Anyway...

Is this the weekend before Christmas? Certainly not when I can sit barefoot (well, in my Chacos) outside reading the 911 Commission Report, the left side of my face scalded by the sun, the windows of the house open, newly hooked-up speakers playing Led Zeppelin as it should be played, Luke frolicking out back with his daddy, joyful to be so unencumbered... strange to feel like a late-summer mountain evening in the flatlands of NC in December. Actually, I'm a little miffed by it. All this hokey Christmas music and decor for what? (The true irony of this statement isn't lost on me.)

Speaking of the 911 Commission Report: this was a late-in-the-game purchase one makes out of sheer obligation. When we saw that this was only 5 dollars at a used bookstore on our honeymoon, it was just a necessity. Simply. So, today of all days, I pulled it from our rapidly growing (I love it) bookshelf to skim. It has been called an "easy read," I am assuming because of its narrative style, a far-cry from its television persona-the dry, rambling, endless interviews, chock-full of circular reasoning and outstandingly trite questions...and, yet, wasn't I riveted in my chair, compelled to watch even then? What were you doing on that day, September 11th, 2001? Have you forgotten? Have you been asked?

On a lighter note, we held our first-ever Holiday Party on Friday evening. We invited my siblings and their respective betrothed to a "tacky" Christmas get-together. Our request was that they bring a White Elephant gift and dress, um, well...like those nice folks who go above and beyond the usual Christmas sweater or vest with Scottie Dogs on them. My family did not disappoint me! We ate a plethora of appetizers: veggies with dill dip, an assortment of cheese spreads and brie with table water crackers with fruit, celery stuffed with olive spread, and adorable shrimp cocktails arranged on small wine glasses garnished with lemon and Italian parsley. We ate a rich Beef Stroganoff (where were the mushrooms?) with egg noodles and enjoyed a slice of Yule log for Bizzert (as Luke calls it.) All in all, it went well and the food was good. I am loving this, by the way. I find a lot of enjoyment planning events, decorating and serving food to people. I don't know where that will take me, I'm just saying it to be said. It's an interest of mine.

Pictures anyone?
