Had lunch at the Skylight Exchange yesterday with a few coworkers and thumbed through the secondhand records for sale… I found a number of albums I would have gotten if I had let myself, but I settled on two, S&G’s Wednesday Morning, 3 a.m.<\/i> and Simon’s Graceland<\/i>. I think I have the latter on cd buried somewhere in the apartment, but it’s always different on vinyl, especially an album like that with its atmospheric, ethereal moments. I felt the same way listening to it last night as I did when I found The Joshua Tree<\/i> all those years ago and put it on the turntable for the first time. Something about that analog arm touching the surface of the plastic disk and the fact that the music exists in terms of physical vibrations before it even begins to make its way to the speakers… it’s more real, more three-dimensional.<\/p>\n
